Before my father passed, as he was on the campaign trail in 1968, he visited many of the poorest communities in America, in West Virginia and the Mississippi Delta. When he came back from the Delta one day, he told us around the dinner table:

“I was in a tar paper shack today, smaller than this dining room, with 2 families living there. The children eat one meal a day. When you get older, I want you to help these people." - Robert F. Kennedy Sr.

When he brought us to these communities, my Dad often told us:

"These are your people. These are Kennedy people. Big shots, corporations, and millionaires, they have lobbyists and PR firms. They have lawyers. They don’t need the Kennedys. These are the people you need to spend the rest of your life helping."

When I’m president, I’m going to be president for those people
